SOLUTIONS

For DFIs, Funders & Development Partners

FundTrace gives you full transparency and an immutable audit trail — without changing your deal structure or adding headcount.

The challenge: funders carry the risk, but rarely see real-time proof

Traditional oversight relies on self-reported updates and periodic site visits, leaving capital exposed between reporting cycles.

Weeks, not days

Manual milestone checks can take up to 21 days industry-wide.

Often disputed

Self-reported EPC updates are a common source of funder disputes.

Point-in-time only

Most funders see status only at quarterly reporting intervals.

Mandate & reputational risk

Fund misapplication or delivery failure creates compliance exposure.

FundTrace closes this gap — giving funders continuous, independent visibility from disbursement to delivery, on every project in the portfolio.

The solution: a transparency platform built for funders

Designed specifically to strengthen confidence and oversight across complex, multi-stakeholder infrastructure projects.

Continuous Real-Time Oversight

Full visibility into fund flows from disbursement to delivery.

Payments Tied to Proof

Release is triggered only by verified delivery and completed work.

Early Alerts

Anomaly and delay detection before funds are lost or misapplied.

Immutable Audit Trail

Every transaction recorded, traceable, and tamper-proof.

The verified disbursement rail

A single, shared record of truth replaces separate funder audits, EPC claims, and consultant sign-offs.

1 · Funder / DFI

Holds facility, releases funds against certified milestones only.

2 · FundTrace Verification

Independently confirms physical progress & compliance evidence.

3 · Xago Payment Rail

Executes the certified disbursement through the project's own dedicated payment account.

4 · EPC Contractor

Receives payment against verified, not disputed, progress.

For funders: capital moves only when independently verified — cutting reconciliation effort and accelerating deployment.

From trust-based to evidence-based verification

Proof of Delivery

Delivery notes captured for major suppliers, plus local-content monitoring where required.

Proof of Work

AI cameras count vehicles and workers on site, flag no-activity periods, and generate time-lapse records.

Benchmark Costs

Over time we will benchmark costs for materials, labour, and time.

Built for transparency & compliance

  • Secure ledger used as an audit and transparency layer
  • Dedicated project wallets for traceable fund flows
  • KYB and AML independently enforced for all material participants
  • Option of stable-value settlement (via Xago) to avoid currency volatility or fiat currency

DFI FAQs

What FundTrace is

FundTrace is a delivery assurance and controlled disbursement platform for infrastructure finance. It gives funders independent, verified visibility into how a project is actually progressing on site, and links fund release to that verified progress rather than to self-reported updates alone.

Today, most infrastructure finance disbursement relies on progress reports from the contractor or implementing agency, with independent verification happening only periodically (site visits, audits) if at all. That creates a lag between when a problem occurs and when a funder finds out — often after funds have already been released. FundTrace closes that gap by verifying progress continuously and tying disbursement to that verification.

Primarily development finance institutions and lenders funding infrastructure projects in Africa, alongside the EPCs/contractors delivering those projects and the governments overseeing them.

FundTrace is a technology platform, not a fund manager or an auditor. It provides verification data and workflow tools that inform a funder's own disbursement decisions — it never takes custody of funds.

How verification works

FundTrace combines contractor or site-team submissions with site imagery — captured via AI cameras.

FundTrace logs every activity, payment progress and on-site activity in real time. You can check on project progress anytime via the website and you get a detailed weekly report every week in your inbox.

The custom designed AI cameras are shipped to site ready for installation. We need power and an internet connection. Where internet connectivity is poor, we use Starlink to ensure continuous visibility.

Compliance is treated like any other task and it is recommended that a compliance officer is appointed to simply manage this process. All required documentation is stored with the project.

Fund disbursement and payments

A milestone is defined upfront as part of the project's funding agreement. Once FundTrace's verification confirms that milestone has been met (according to agreed criteria), disbursement against that milestone can be made by the contractor — funds move only once independent verification is complete, rather than on a fixed schedule or on the contractor's own attestation.

FundTrace never touches the project funds. These are contained in dedicated project accounts that all contractors must establish themselves. Our system keeps a record of all project transactions between the different parties.

Verified payments can settle via stablecoin rails, through FundTrace's partnership with Xago Technologies. This is intended to reduce the delay and cost typically associated with cross-border payments to contractors and suppliers, compared to traditional banking rails. It also reduces the costs of transactions sent via traditional channels.

The use of stablecoins is optional, but preferred due to the cost and information advantages. You can use our other solution, depending on the specific market.

You can also manage your milestones and project progress without tracking the fund flows.

There is no change to the existing financing model, except to add a clause that all participants must use the FundTrace platform. Your information flows and project insight provide a level of transparency never seen before.

Stablecoins are essentially digital currency, pegged to the associated fiat currency. There is no volatility compared to the same fiat currency, but exchange rate fluctuations remain the same.

Every material participant needs to undergo a thorough and independent KYB / AML process as part of their registration.

Data, records, and reporting

Every verification event and associated payment action is recorded on an immutable ledger. This creates a tamper-evident history of what was verified, when, and what disbursement followed — useful for post-project audit, dispute resolution, and reporting to boards or oversight bodies.

There are different levels of access for all project participants. Funders can see every aspect of the project, as can the main contractor. Sub-contractors can only see their tasks and the tasks of their potential sub-contractors.

Project data is updated as it happens and is live on the platform. Additionally, detailed weekly reports are emailed to the project funders specifying project health, financial positions, operations overview, on-site activity tracker, risk registry and compliance progress.

Access to the FundTrace platform is tightly controlled via secure log-ins. Rights and roles are determined up-front to maintain data integrity and limit access to areas of responsibility.

FundTrace provides a comprehensive overview of individual projects as well as an integrated view of your whole portfolio. Weekly reports provide timeous updates. Speak to us about your custom data needs.

FundTrace offers a broader social progress measurement with the Social Progress Imperative, to help translate delivery verification into outcome-level reporting. A baseline study needs to be conducted before a project begins so that impact can be thoroughly assessed. Impact measures can be customised for each project, and can align to SDGs.

All project data belongs to the funder. This can be exported on request and deleted from the FundTrace servers if requested.

Security, compliance, and risk

FundTrace's primary database, user accounts and private document storage are hosted by Supabase in EU-central-1, Frankfurt, Germany.

Data protection:

  • Data is encrypted at rest and in transit by Supabase. Supabase HTTP APIs automatically enforce SSL.
  • PostgreSQL Row Level Security and server-side access checks.
  • Mandatory TOTP 2FA for FundTrace Admins.
  • Private, versioned document storage.
  • SHA-256 file verification and malware quarantine.
  • Append-only, hash-chained audit history.

Supabase is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and regularly audited. Supabase is ISO 27001 certified.

FundTrace never touches the project funds or advises on investment decisions, so we do not need a financial services license. It is a platform that co-ordinates and reports on project activity.

We have a disaster recovery plan with Supabase to ensure continuous operations.

Every material participant needs to undergo a thorough and independent KYB / AML process as part of their registration.

Implementation and fit

A project is simple to set-up on the FundTrace platform. Simply register your project and specify which modules you wish to use: Fund tracking, project activity tracking, impact assessment and AI cameras.

Ensure that your main contractor uses the FundTrace platform, and that their sub-contractors do the same (contractually).

Assign the payment related milestones to your main contractor, then watch as the project progresses.

A project master account is established with one of our payment suppliers (Xago, FNB / Comviva) and this requires a KYB and AML screening process with them.

Ideally projects begin with FundTrace, yet it may be possible to include existing projects in process. Connect with us to explore.

FundTrace can be used for any size and type of project. The hierarchical architecture allows many different levels of sub-contractors.

Yes, FundTrace will add value and streamline administration to your projects.

Typically FundTrace charges a small percentage of project value (around 0.3%), but this is subject to project specification, size and complexity. All contractors have access to the FundTrace platform included for this fee.

Note that the AI cameras are costed separately, as is the impact assessment.

Company and track record

FundTrace is at pilot stage, running live pilots on real infrastructure projects to validate the platform ahead of wider rollout. We believe in being direct about this rather than overstating maturity.

FundTrace is led by CEO Peter Searll, with Colin de Boer (a chartered accountant) as CFO and Alan Lipschitz as Non-Executive Director focused on business development.

FundTrace has a partnership with Xago Technologies for stablecoin settlement, and a partnership with the Social Progress Imperative around impact measurement.
